「冬虫夏草」是高原地区盛产的名贵药材。此乃由麦角菌科植物「冬虫夏草」菌寄生在蝙蝠蛾科昆虫蝙蝠幼虫上的子座，连合幼虫尸体一并入药，称之为「冬虫夏草」。
据中国医学书藉巨著《本草网目》内记载到「冬虫夏草」功用等同人参，主治肾虚所致的阳补益肺肾、纳气平喘、化痰止血；即肺气虚或肺肾两虚的喘促气少、咳嗽、劳嗽痰血。由于「冬虫夏草」药性平和，故此补而不燥，对于身体虚弱和虚不受补者是之健康补品。若用作病后及老人体弱调理，更能减低中风及老人病、失亿抗衰老、保青春、增长寿命。长服有助调节功能，加强新陈代谢、隆低血脂、血压、平喘化痰、保肝、保肺、软化血管、使身体强壮，以致延年益寿。
