2012年4月21日凌晨2时56分，李嘉诚旗下的香港海逸君绰酒店发生三级大火，大火于今天清晨被扑灭。2011年12月16日，北京西直门购物中心起火，由LED屏施工不当引发；同月月底，浙江省乐清市区的交通大厦的LED显示屏也突然起火。
此类LED显示屏产品“突然起火”的事故已发生多起， LED显示屏应用范围日益广泛，但其安全隐患问题也逐渐显露。但在国际上各国早已意识到这一国际性问题，对户外传媒建筑（主要是LED显示屏产品）作了相关规定。香港规定，凡是在香港安装的LED显示屏项目需通过英国BS476建筑材料阻燃防火测试。
